Cassie Carroll, DVM

I received my Bachelor’s degree in biology from Rutgers University in New Jersey. I graduated from the University Of Florida College Of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. After that I completed a rotating small animal internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. I then completed an exotic animal medicine internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. Prior to coming to Pender I worked in the exotics department at Metropolitan Veterinary Referral Group.

Danielle Shearer, DVM

Originally from the Chicago area, I grew up around various animals at my family’s farm in Wisconsin. While obtaining my undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, I worked at the Virginia-Maryland Veterinary School large animal clinic and a local small animal clinic. Afterwards, I moved back to North Carolina where I worked at small animal clinics as a veterinary assistant and volunteered at the Carolina Raptor Center for several years. While attending Ross University, I was an officer for an animal welfare program (PAWS) and volunteered for several research projects including the repellent effect of a product against Ischnocera lice in chickens, pain perception in donkeys, prevalence of whipworms infections in cats, and a shorebirds project. During a summer break, I traveled to South Africa to help stop rhino poaching (cutting off their horns) and relocate giraffes as well as various hoofstock. My externships included Niles Animal Hospital and Bird Medical Center, ASPCA, and Wildlife Safari. Following my graduation, I traveled to Costa Rica to teach veterinary medicine to high schoolers, while participating in spay/neuter clinics and wildlife rescue facilities (Kids Saving The Rainforest and Proyecto Asis).

Ryan Carney, DVM

Working as a veterinarian at Pender Exotics has allowed me to fully realize the passion I have always had for exotic pets from a young age. At the same time, Pender Veterinary Center utilizes my training and zeal for canine and feline medicine. I appreciate and understand the strength of the human-animal bond, no matter what kind of animal that may be. Every pet is part of the family, no matter how big or small.

Talia Gattenuo, DVM

I am originally from Los Angeles where I raised cockatiels, reptiles, and small mammals which sparked my interest in veterinary medicine from a very young age. Because of my love of animals I had the single minded goal to become a veterinarian and have worked in animal care since middle school. I have traveled to other countries to provide education and decrease animal overpopulation through low cost spays and neuters. I love being the voice for animals in need and I will work on promoting the human-animal bond while providing the best quality of care for each individual animal that I have the opportunity to meet.
