Dr. Abby Burkhart is a 2021 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Burkhart is a Maryland native who grew up in Williamsport, MD. She is excited to return to the area and serve the community! Prior to attending veterinary school, she received her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medical Technology from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. Dr. Burkhart’s professional interests include feline medicine, soft tissue surgery and dentistry. She also has a special interest in avian and exotic animal medicine. Dr. Burkhart has completed additional training to become fear-free certified because she believes her patient’s emotional wellbeing is just as important as their physical health. She is most excited about establishing strong relationships with her clients and advising them throughout all stages of their pet’s lives. Outside of work, Dr. Burkhart enjoys partaking in various water sports on the Potomac River, snow-skiing, playing ice hockey or disc golf (depending on the season!) and spending quality time with her friends and family. Dr. Burkhart and her partner Brandon have four beloved pets of their own including a cattle dog mix named Peri and three cats - Anchovy, Mackerel and Tilapia.
Dr. Deanna Becker was raised in Hagerstown, Maryland and graduated from St. Maria Goretti High School. In 1995, she graduated from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in Westminster, MD with a degree in Biology. For her first four years after college, Dr. Becker worked full-time as a molecular biologist doing HIV research in Gaithersburg, MD and part-time in the evenings as a Veterinary Technician. Before applying to veterinary school, Dr. Becker worked another two years as a full-time Veterinary Technician. Dr. Becker graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and is fear free certified. Dr. Becker was employed for almost seven years at the Waynesboro Veterinary Clinic in Waynesboro, PA. She was then employed by Confederate Woods Veterinary Hospital in Gettysburg, PA for almost six years. She is skilled in small animal medicine and surgery and has a unique interest in avian medicine and surgery. She also has a special interest in orthopedic surgery and geriatric medicine.
