Signs of Reproductive Disease in Hens

Added July 15, 2024

Reproductive disease is very common in domestic hens due to centuries of breeding for increased 'egg productivity'. The consequence is she has a high risk of developing egg related issues which increase as she ages. Clinical signs your hen has a reproductive disease include laying soft-shelled, shell-less, 'lash' eggs, misshaped or tiny eggs. Sporadically laying or not laying eggs. Enlarged belly (abdominal distension), accumulation of feces under vent (pasty butt), frequent nestbox sitting when non-broody, upright "penguin-like" stance. Body weight increase.
