Mozuku

Cladosiphon okamuranus

Mozuku (Cladosiphon okamuranus) is a type of edible brown seaweed in the Cladosiphon genus. Mozuku is harvested from natural populations found in the southern islands of Japan. Mozuku contains large amounts of fucoidan, a type of sulfated polysaccharide found to be of benefit for cancer treatment and as a health supplement in humans.

Antiviral: Recent research suggests that fucoidan from mozuku demonstrates antiviral activity against Newcastle disease in chickens.
