Rubus fruticosus

Blackberries (Rubus fruticosus) are notable for their high nutritional contents of dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and the essential mineral manganese. They also contain numerous phytochemical including polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, salicylic acid, ellagic acid, and fiber. Blackberry leaves and roots are a long-standing home remedy for anemia, regulates menses, diarrhea, and dysentery.

Antimicrobial: Blackberry pomace extract is beneficial for reduction of growth of Pasteurella multocida, the bacterium responsible for fowl cholera.

Memory improvement: A research study conducted on rats in 2009 showed that feeding a 2% blackberry-supplemented diet improved motor and cognitive performance.
