Ramon de Armas, DVM

I received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Universidad Central de Las Villas in Cuba in 2000, where I graduated with honors in Veterinary Propaedeutics, Veterinary Surgery, and Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Growing up as a child on a farm close to Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, I was surrounded and awed by many different species of animals. I cared for birds, bunnies, dogs, cats, snakes, cattle. I enjoyed tremendously riding and caring for our horses, and I always felt a special connection with all of them. When I decided to become a veterinarian, I thought back to those times as a child and I knew it was the right career path for me. Over the years, while attending Veterinary College at Las Villas University and afterwards while working as a small animal practitioner, I have been exposed to many levels of animal comfort and joy, as well as many inevitable moments of grieving.

As a veterinarian, I feel one of my most important responsibilities is to educate and help pet owners understand their relationship with their pets as a family member, help cure my patients’ illnesses, and provide support when grieving is the only outcome. I have had many pets of my own over the years and each one has been special to me. They have been constant companions throughout all the changes and milestones in my life. I know what it is like to love and lose a special friend and I would not trade any of the moments I had with them.

My goal as a veterinarian in our veterinary hospital here in Miami is to help people who share a life and a home with their loving animal companions.

In August 2010, I started the first steps towards my most challenging professional dream. That dream became a reality in January 2013, when Paws and Claws Medical Center opened its doors to all pets near Kendale Lakes and the surrounding areas of Miami, Florida.

I enjoy working in all areas of veterinary medicine, but I have a special interest in non-traditional species such as avian, reptiles and small mammals, and I take particular interest in endoscopy and minimally invasive surgery and other procedures, clinical medicine, and preventive care. I have spent years of study in each of these areas, including numerous courses of specialized continuing education, so that I can offer my patients the high-quality service they deserve.

I am a member of the AAV, AEMV, ARAV, AVMA, AAHA, FVMA, Among other professional affiliations.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, my wife and my three kids and our pets, a chihuahua named Maane, our cat Buttons, our parrot Poly, our bearded Dragon and our Sulcata tortoise.
