Dr. Thielen is originally from Texas and attended Texas A&M University (TAMU) College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Kaytee Avian and Special Species Award for her interest in and contribution to avian research and medicine. Because of her passion of exotic animal medicine, Dr. Thielen came for a 1-year exotic animal medicine internship at Broward Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital with Dr. Kelleher. She then went on to complete a 2-year avian residency at the Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics in Bedford Hills, New York, where she was able to work towards her life-long goal of becoming a board certified avian specialist. Dr. Thielen serves as the Marketing Chair for the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. She is also a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Before her time at TAMU, Dr. Thielen worked as a veterinary technician for 4 years during which time she participated in wildlife rehabilitation, one of her many passions. Other exotic animal experiences include working at the animal health department of the Columbus Zoo and conducting field research on macaws in the heart of the Amazon rainforest at the Tambopata Research Center in Peru.
