Streptococcus equi zooepidemicus

Streptococcus zooepidemicus is a non-motile, non-sporulating, encapsulated, Gram-positive, catalse-negative, and coccoid bacterium. It is one of the two subspecies of Streptococcus equi, often referred to as streptococci.

Streptococcus zooepidemicus is a normal bacterial flora of healthy horses, and can sometimes be associated with wound and respiratory tract infections in horses. In other animals, it is known to cause septicemia, a systematic inflammatory response to infections.
