Enterococcus faecalis

Enterococcus faecalis is a gram-positive, facultative anaerobic cocci that is morphologically similar to streptococci on Gram stain. It is a normal inhabitant of the gastrointestinal tract of healthy humans, mammals and chickens. Enterococcus genus of bacteria are becoming increasingly resistant to antimicrobial agents.

E. faecalis is an opportunistic pathogen, triggered by immunosuppression and other debilitating factors.
