Diospyros kaki

Persimmons are round or oval, flavorful golden yellow to red-orange fruits produced by different species of persimmon trees (Diospyros kaki). Persimmon trees classified broadly into two general categories: those that bear "astringent fruit" (whilst unripe) and those that bear "non-astringent" fruits. Persimmons contain high amounts of several nutrients and plant compounds. They have been linked to health benefits like improved heart and eye health. Persimmons are used in Chinese traditional medicine for the treatment of ischemia stroke, angina, internal hemorrhage, hypertension, atherosclerosis and some infectious diseases.

Persimmons contain high amounts of a few different vitamins and are a good source of fiber. Persimmon fruits are high in:

Egg quality: Adding dried persimmon peel powder as a feed additive to laying hens' diets improves production performance and eqq quality characteristics in late stage laying hens. Egg quality improvements included: higher eggshell color values, increased albumen quality (resulting from the addition of vitamin C, vitamin E, and Se in the laying hens diet), lower triacylglycerol, phospholipid, and hepatic total cholesterol levels.
