Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates provides veterinary services to a wide variety of animals and are located in Purcellville, VA. The practice is fully staffed with 10 veterinarians and is open 24/7 for clients.
Dr. Mitchell grew up and attended college in upstate NY. He graduated from Ross University Vet school in 2008 and moved to Roanoke Virginia that same year. Ultimately, Dr. Mitchell would join the team at Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates in June of 2010 as a general practitioner and emergency veterinarian. His pets include Arizona the brindle mastiff and James the orange cat, as well as a dozen laying hens.
Lori Nishizawa, DVM
Originally born and raised in Hawaii, Dr. Lori Nishizawa has traveled across the U.S. to settle here in Loudoun County, Virginia. She received her BA in Biology from Claremont McKenna College in San Bernadino, California, then moved on to the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where she earned her degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She moved to the Northern Virginia area in 2009, working in Ashburn for a year before joining Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates in 2010. Her professional interests include traditional companion animal medicine, as well as exotics medicine (including small mammals, reptiles, and birds).
Valerie Campbell, DVM
Born in Buffalo, NY in 1958, raised mostly in Northern Virginia. From a very young age gravitated to animals. Grew up with dogs, fish, horses, birds and Guinea pigs. Loved outdoor activities like bird watching, photography, gardening and art. Was a Girl Scout through Middle school and did a lot of camping and projects in recycling, habitat repair and wildlife management. After graduating from Oakton High School, attended Mary Washington and continued the interest with wildlife and biology by graduating with honors with a Bachelors degree in Biology. Attended VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine’s first class and graduated in 1984 with a DVM degree. Married Dr. Donald Nichols, classmate and board certified Veterinary Pathologist in 1984 and had son, Geoffrey Nichols in 1993 (BS Biology William and Mary 2015). Practice interests include birds and exotics, wildlife medicine, surgery, internal medicine and practice management.
Valerie Latchford, BRVBB
Dr. Valerie Latchford is a 1999 graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA with a BS in Biology and English, and a 2004 graduate of the Royal Veterinary College, University of London. She worked in mixed animal practice in Pennsylvania and Maryland before coming to join the Blue Ridge Veterinary Blood Bank in 2012. She became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist in 2013 through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Apart from working with BRVBB, Dr. Latchford enjoys using acupuncture to help horses, dogs and cats with pain, lameness, and internal medicine issues. She enjoys hiking, traveling, horseback riding, and gardening. She lives in Maryland with a menagerie of rescue animals, and raises chickens, quail, and pheasants.
Wendy Behm, DVM
Dr. Wendy Behm was born and raised in Baltimore before attending Cornell University for her undergraduate studies. In 1989, Dr. Behm graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, then began working at Old Dominion Animal Health Care Center in McLean for 8 years. Immediately following this position, Dr. Behm joined us at BRVA and how now been with us for more than 20 years. Dr. Behm’s professional interests are small mammal/avian medicine especially rabbits, guinea pigs and birds. She enjoys dentistry and complicated internal medicine cases and critical care. Most of all, she enjoys knowing her clients and patients personally for many years through the good and the bad, the sick and the routine. She feels privileged to know many BRVA clients as friends.
