Histoplasma capsulatum

Histoplasma capsulatum is a type of dimorphic fungi that causes histoplasmosis in infected chickens. H. capsulatum is found in the soil contaminated with decaying bat guano or bird feces. It is spread by spores which become airborne when the soil gets disturbed. It is most prevalent in the Ohio and Mississippi River valleys in the United States.
