Clostridium septicum

Clostridium septicum is of the same genus as C. botulinum, the organism responsible for producing the toxic that causes botulism. Similar to C. botulinum, C. septicum is capable of producing toxic chemicals, most notable being the alpha toxin which is responsible for gas gangrene in humans and animals.

Clostridium genus are found in many different environments (soil, sewage, water, animals and human gastrointestinal system) and are able to form endospores that allow them to survive in harsh environments for long periods of time.
