Brachyspira intermedia

Brachyspira are anaerobic, Gram-negative bacteria known to cause Intestinal Spirochaetosis in birds.

The bacteria is transmitted faeco-oral route from infected birds. Feral birds, rodents and domestic animals harbor Brachyspira which is then passed through their feces into the environment. Brachyspira are able to remain infectious for up to 66 days in water.
