Flucytosine is an antifungal drug used often in combination with other antifungals for the long-term treatment of aspergillosis, and sometimes in severe cases of candidasis (sour crop) when birds are resistant nystatin. It comes available as a capsule (250 and 500 mg), given orally.
Typical Dosage: 20-50 mg/kg, given twice a day by mouth.
Caution. The drug is toxic to bone marrow. Birds treated with flucytosine should be regularly monitored with CBCs for possible bone marrow damage.
