Dexamethasone (Decadron)

Dexamethasone (Decadron) is type of corticosteroid and anti-inflammatory drug, used most often for cases of trauma and shock. Extreme caution should be associated with giving this drug to poultry, especially "broilers" and large chicken breeds. Studies have shown that treating birds with dexamethasone interferes with their glucose and lipid metabolism, leading to heart problems and metabolic disorders.

Drug form: It comes available as an injectable solution (2 or 4 mg/ml), given by IM or IV.

Typical dosage: 2-4 mg/kg, given IM or IV once or twice a day.
