Calcium lactate

Calcium lactate (brand name Calphosan®) is used as an emergency treatment in birds with critically low serum calcium levels. The drug comes in an injectable form. It is most often given to female birds actively laying eggs and who are suspected of suffering from egg-binding and laying soft-shelled eggs.
  • 5-10 mg/kg IM q7d prn
comes as a solution in 60 ml vials, targeted for use in humans and dogs. Each 10 ml. contains 50 mg. calcium glycerophosphate, 50 mg. calcium lactate and 0.25% phenol (as preservative), in a physiological solution of sodium chloride.
