Albendazole (Valbazen, Albenza)

Albendazole (Valbazen, Albenza) is a broad spectrum dewormer used for humans, cattle, goats, and sheep. It is used off label for poultry, where it has proven effective against many internal parasites, including roundworms (Ascaridia galli), the cecal worm (Heterakis gallinarum), Capillaria obsignata (capillary or thread worms) and some tapeworms (Raillietina echinobothrida and R. cesticillus).

Recommended dosage: 10-20 mg/kg body weight, given orally. 10 mg/kg for control of all worms except tapeworms, which require 20 mg/kg for control. If Valbazen® Suspension is used, containing 11.36% Albendazole, if desired dosage is 10 mg/kg, this would calculate into the following bird weights - doses:
  • 1 lb bird - 0.04 ml of Valbazen
  • 2 lb bird - 0.08 ml of Valbazen
  • 4 lb bird - 0.16 ml of Valbazen
  • 6 lb bird - 0.24 ml of Valbazen
  • 8 lb bird - 0.24 ml of Valbazen
